We’re looking for a Senior Systems Engineer who’s an expert in Microsoft technologies and a proven leader in IT infrastructure, security, and project delivery. This remote contract role offers an exciting opportunity for seasoned IT professionals to champion innovative solutions, streamline operations, and support technical teams in a fast-paced environment. You will design and implement advanced Microsoft-based systems, enhance security protocols, and manage complex system migrations—delivering exceptional user experiences and making a meaningful impact.

What You’ll Do

Architect & Deploy: Lead the design and deployment of Microsoft-centric IT solutions, including Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID, and Enterprise Apps, across diverse technical environments to support organizational growth and efficiency.

Provide Technical Leadership: Serve as the subject matter expert for Microsoft Defender Suite, Endpoint Management (Intune/MEM), and automation tools such as PowerShell, Azure Logic Apps, and Azure Functions to enhance security and operational efficiency.

Manage Security & Compliance: Oversee security policies like conditional access and identity management, ensuring compliance with standards like NIST, ISO, and CMMC to safeguard organizational infrastructure.

Support & Mentor Teams: Support, guide, and mentor help desk and support staff, fostering a collaborative environment focused on high-quality service delivery.

Lead Complex Projects: Manage end-to-end IT projects, including system migrations, infrastructure upgrades, and multi-cloud integrations—driving them from discovery to deployment.

Drive Innovation & Optimization: Continuously evaluate emerging technology trends to improve system performance, security, and user experience, aligning with business goals.

Facilitate Communication & Collaboration: Partner effectively with stakeholders, leadership, and technical teams, translating complex concepts into clear and actionable insights.

Must-Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 7+ years in senior IT engineering roles with deep expertise in Microsoft environments
  • 8+ years total experience in systems administration, cybersecurity, or systems engineering

Bonus Points For

  • Certifications in Microsoft, Azure, or Google platforms
  • Experience with Tesira Biamp, Crestron, NEAT, or other Audio/Visual Systems
  • Experience implementing IT controls in accordance with NIST, ISO, and CMMC standards
  • Experience in multi-cloud environments and system migrations
  • Familiarity with federal compliance and high-availability infrastructure
  • Passion for delivering extraordinary user experiences
  • 3+ years managing or mentoring support/help desk teams
  • Proficiency with automation tools: PowerShell scripting, Azure Logic Apps, Azure Functions
  • Strong understanding of conditional access policies, identity management, and modern security principles

  • Job Type: Contract (24-hour total commitment over two weeks, billed hourly)
  • Compensation: Paid per hour; rate to be determined
